The end of January already? Just like that there are only eleven months left in 2022.
How’s it going!?
Have you let go of the old habits to make room for those resolutions that replace them? Or have you instead decided that you’d prefer to have your life change without really changing a thing? If you’ve chosen the latter, you’re in good company. Most, or many, of us would prefer to change everything around us while refusing to actually change anything we do.
Sometimes, the process starts by taking charge, and you can read more about how to do this in 3 Steps to Getting Unfrozen by Letting Go.
Remember the biggest challenge is almost always leaving the old or the outdated behind to make room for the new we profess to be ready to pursue. The very practical and often underrated remedy for this challenge may be to temporarily focus less on the thing you want and instead, focus on when you want it.
Let’s think about how it is when you focus so intensely on an object that it begins to soften around the edges and become blurry under the pressure of your gaze. Then somehow, the things around it begin to come into focus. Well, your resolutions or desired outcomes are similar in nature.
If you are wondering how to bring these goals back into clarity, refocus with:
– Schedules: are used to make plans for carrying out a process, or for giving lists of intended events and times. When you schedule tasks, goals and resolutions you see them in front of you and set an intention. The objective is to set reminders to help you reach your desired result, such as: you will get it done before Friday at 6:00 or before December 1st, 2022. There’s something magical about scheduling things that improves our motivation and management to get it done.
– Timelines: are chronological arrangements of events in the order of their occurrence. When you make a timeline, a projected time/date for each step of your task or goal to take place, you can then see the forward movement as those tasks are completed. Naturally, your enthusiasm grows in association with each goal you accomplish. Therefore, these experiences will lead you to feel that the changes are more real and more achievable.
– Deadlines: are the latest times or dates by which something should be finished. When you set a deadline, it creates more than a sense of urgency, it plants a seed of importance. Every seed of importance is a way to set them apart from other seeds and all other fleeting thoughts that may enter and exit your mind in a day, a month or a year. Setting those seeds into your pots of must-do’s causes your prioritization to shift in order to fulfill your project. Though, under pressure, it is the extra attention that helps the seeds to flourish as your goals reach an end.
