When I was growing up my mom would say, “Mind your business, you’ll live longer.” It was funny for my cousins and I to hear adults say this then. Now that I’m an adult I know these words are essential to living a life with fewer external triggers.

Minding our business is not nearly as popular as tracking everyone else’s, though. We can express our opinions regarding celebrity relationships before we know what’s going on within our own. It’s second nature to take care of everyone else’s expectations but much harder to honor our personal needs and desires.

Yet, before we put others ahead of ourselves, one should do themselves the service of minding the business of ‘me’ because the business of ‘them’ isn’t going to take care of yours.

One should do themselves the service of minding the business of ‘me’.

Try minding your business by:

  1. Checking in to see how you’re feeling
  2. Getting a physical
  3. Seeing a therapist
  4. Journaling your feelings
  5. Being honest about what is/isn’t working
  6. Reevaluating relationships
  7. Creating a spiritual practice

When you try to mind your own business before you’re told you have to, you can benefit from less triggers and improved wellbeing. No one can guarantee that you’ll live longer, but you just might live better.
